Rwanda on Monday April 16, 2018 handed over Theogene Irakoze, a Burundian police officer after spending three days in the country.

According to sources, the drunken officer was arrested after illegally crossing the border into Rwanda on Friday April 13, 2018.

After talks between the two countries, Rusizi district officials said in a statement on Monday afternoon that the officer was sent back to Burundi and posted pictures of him on twitter.

Normally, Theogene serves at Mabayi police station located at Ruhororo border in Cibitoke, a province bordering with Rwanda on the Western part. When he crossed the border, Theogene was unarmed and was not in police uniform.

Meanwhile, both the Burundian national radio and television had announced on Saturday morning that ACP Theogene Irakoze was captured on Friday evening around 18h45 by Rwanda security organs after having illegally crossed the border.

Burundi police spokesperson Pierre Nkurikiye also confirmed that they have received Theogene Irakoze.
