Prime Minister Fires Head Of Agriculture Board

Barely fourteen months in office, Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe has been relieved of his duties as the Director General of the Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB).

Dr. Karangwa Patrick who was the head of Research Department at RAB takes over with immediate effect.

Dr Mark Bagabe was appointed for this position by the Senate in October 2016.

Bagabe had pledged to improve RAB’s performance but until his dismissal, which was approved by cabinet last week, RAB has been facing internal squabbles between management and junior staff.

Sources told Taarifa that mismanagement, incompetence and failure to put the house in order were among the reasons for his dismissal.

The firing of Dr Bagabe follows another incident in December last year when the Prime Minister, Dr Edouard Ngirente suspended Dr Daphrose Gahakwa who was Deputy Director General of RAB along with three other staff; Innocent Nzeyimana Head of Land Husbandry, Irrigation and Mechanization department, Violet Nyirasangwa, Head of Corporate Services Division and Theogene Bimenya, who was in charge of finance.
