Kigali’s deluxe Waka Fitness Gym last week signed a one year partnership deal with ‘Thousand Hills Rugby Club,’ to boost players’ fitness and performance.
The Clubs players will not only enjoy the fully equipped facility to prepare for their athletic encounters in the game, but will receive professional health advice.
Speaking at the launch, Waka’s Customer Service and Marketing Officer, Alexia Uwera Mupende said that the signing of the deal is part of Waka’s plans to support and develop sports in the country.
“We are trying to help and promote sports in Rwanda. Not much is given to them, so we are trying to give them an opportunity to Waka’s good facility with professional trainers who can advise them on what they need to do in order to be able to achieve their goals.’’
She added that the partnership is also a way of giving back to the community and support the youth to stay healthy and fit.
Heritier Habimana, the team’s captain, told Taarifa that the partnership deal is an exceptional opportunity for the club to improve performance and skills, since it’s the first time to have such partnership.
“It is very exciting that we now have a new partner, we have a lot in store for the club that will be added on to this gym to improve our performance and accomplish more than what we already have.”
The club’s head coach and founder, Jimmy Mugabo noted that the partnership is vital not only to the players’ physique but also to the game in general.
“This partnership will help players develop physically and perform well in Rwanda because we are now part of the Rwandan Rugby Federation and we are competing in the national league.”
The club has played in a number of tournaments across East Africa and Mugabo says “it will be a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and be ready to compete at the level of Kenya, Uganda and other countries that are really very advanced in the game.”
The club that was founded in 2014 has eighty members currently.
