Gilbert Habyarimana has been elected new Rubavu District Mayor garnering 91 percent of the vote against 8.2% from his competitor, Jean d’Arc Usabinema, in the Friday elections.
In his acceptance speech, Habyarimana pledged to collaborate with citizen to improve the economy through creating jobs and fighting drug abuse among the youth.
The 44 year old also pledged to commit to improving on the rankingS of ‘Imihigo’, the districts performance contracts, in which Rubavu came in the last position with 72.86%.
“You have voted for collaboration, let’s work hard to move from the 30th position into upper levels, my ears are open to listen to constructive ideas,” he said.
Habyarimana has been serving as Deputy Director General at Rwanda Cooperative Agency and holds a Masters Degree in Economics.
He replaces Jérémie Sinamenye who resigned after an election related offence.
