Rwanda media practitioners and experts will, this Tuesday, discuss challenges in the industry that have come along with the digital era.
The ninth National Media Dialogue, organized by Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) will also coincide with the celebration of Africa Day of Information and the Annual Development Journalism Awards.
Under the theme “Positioning African Media in the Digital Era,” participants will examine opportunities and challenges facing media, not only in Rwanda but across the continent.
Main topics of discussions will revolve around “fake news, regulation of online news platforms, media business models, media training and practice for future journalism.”
The organizers have also invited speakers such as Ms. Leslie Racher, Director for Information and Communication in African Union Commission, Mr Constant Nemale, CEO Africa 24, Ms Lydia Gachungi, Regional Communication Expert on Safety of Journalists and Media Development, UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa and Mr. Wangethi Mwangi, CEO Africa Media Initiative, who will lead discussions on major topics.
Previous media dialogues have highlighted major setbacks for journalists to the African story within the African context.
Local “outstanding” Journalists and media houses efforts will also be recognized with awards under different categories, under the ‘Development Journalism Awards.’
