Six Rwandan Students In Uganda Die In A Car Accident

Six students from the Kampala International University(KIU) who were on their way back from the wedding ceremony of their classmate died in a deadly car accident as the car they were traveling slammed into a parked truck on Kakoge road.

“They had gone to attend a wedding ceremony of their colleague,” one of their classmates said.

Five of them died on spot, while another died en route to Nsambya Hospital.

Reports say their taxi slammed into an Isuzu truck that was parked on Kakoge road, local press said.

The victims were on their way back from Walusi-Migyera of northern Uganda where they had gone to attend a wedding ceremony of a classmate.

Sources say that the driver slammed the car into the truck which was parked on the wrong side of the road with its lights off.

One Samuel Kavuma, an eye witness of the accident and resident of Kakooge village told The Daily Monitor that the taxi Reg No. UAZ 179T was over speeding. He said the driver could have lost control of the car at the narrow section of the road leading to the accident.

“We rushed to the scene and tried to help the injured students who were calling for help. It is unfortunate that 5 of the students died on the spot, Kavuma told the Daily Monitor on Saturday.

The taxi had 13 university students on board.

Victims have been identified as Fred Mutabazi, Frank Ngarambe (representative of Rwandan students at KIU, Samson Makwenjere, Vincent Kwizera, Fred Kasasira and Emmanuel Shema.

A vigil was held at campus and attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Uganda, Gen. Frank Mugambage
