Muvumba cell in Muhanga district is an area of sloping hills and a rocky bottom. It is possible that in case of a natural disaster, outbreak or accident, people could fall off from the top and collapse into Nyabarongo river.
This is why its residents are being relocated to Horezo Model Village that is being built in Rongi sector, in the same district.
It is expected that 754 families will be relocated, but so far only 20 have been relocated, while other 32 families will soon be accommodated in 8 completed houses which cost Rwf572m.
The Mayor of Muhanga, Beatrice Uwamariya, says that Horezo Model Village will cost over Rwf10 billion that will be donated by different institutions including the Housing Authority, WASAC, REG, MINAGRI and REMA and Muhanga District.
She said that in this village, there will be built a police station, office of the village leader, as well as accommodation for district leaders.
Works to build these model villages are expected to close in June, 2018.
