Rwanda Prison authorities have disclosed the escape of three convicts from the Nyanza prison, including Cassien Ntamuhanga, a former journalist.
CIP Hillary Sengabo, the Spokesperson for Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) told local media that the escape took place on Monday night, where Ntamuhanga, Sibomana Kirenge and Theogene Batambarije used ropes to go over the prison perimeter fence.
Rwanda Correctional Service urges the general public to report to Police or local authorities on their whereabouts.
They have been serving sentences ranging from 25, 20 and 16 years, respectively.
Prison breaks are not common phenomena in Rwanda. Previous trials to flee have resulted into gunning down of the escapees by prison guards.
