Mergims’ CEO Wins Award At The Young Global Leaders Summit In UAE

Louis – Antoine Muhire, the founder and CEO of Mergims, Fintech Company, has won an award at the just concluded Young Global Leaders Summit in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.

The award was in recognition of Muhire’s vision and idea of using crypto-technology for MERGIMS to enable SMEs and individuals in small and far villages in Africa to integrate into the global marketplace.

While presenting his idea on Wednesday, Muhire said that crypto-technology has the potential of making African economies inclusive, by providing trustworthy transactional data that bigger financial institutions can rely on when “time comes to give loans for instance.”

“Unfortunately, no school in Rwanda, Carnegie Mellon included, is teaching that technology. So I have been traveling every month mainly to Europe trying to recruit labor to come and help my team in Rwanda with crypto technology,” he added.

Muhire also in concerned that crypto technology still not well understood by regulatory authorities in Africa, thus slowing its deployment.

Meanwhile, he said the award isn’t just for him, “but for all young Rwandans working hard everyday in various activities to make Rwanda shine all over the world.”

MERGIMS, started in mid 2015 as an online bill payment aggregator but early this year pivoted to a more open platform facilitating online business for SMEs and individuals.

The Summit also attracted 350 youth leaders to probe issues on leadership, youth and entrepreneurship, the empowerment of women to effect social change as well as sustainability, science, new media, education, corporate culture and corporate social responsibility.

During the summit, His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member, urged leaders of today to create an environment for the next generation to succeed.

“It is more important than ever to bring new discussions, new ideas, and new ways of thinking. The asset that we have and can take pride in is our young men and women who will carry the flag for the next generation,”

The Summit was organized by the regional business and policy magazine, Leaders Middle East, and sponsored by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.
